Okay so the title makes it sound like it’s a day at the theme park, but its not. Hey, it is still boat loads of fun. People love doing surveys…don’t they? I do at least. Anyway if you have 5-6 minutes and you want to show your support for the world’s coolest and possibly largest internet radio station please fill out our 2009 survey. The link is not pretty but the survey is. Jenna made it, and if Jenna made it then its pretty. She’s pretty so how can the survey not be pretty =)

Before I get into why I have not posted a well deserved Mail Box of Love Blog in over 2 weeks, I would like to say welcome back Danny. Now onto my lovely long winded excuses. So writing a weekly Blog might just be about the only thing I can’t seem to do weekly. No this is not me quitting, but don’t expect the Blog to actually be online every Wednesday of every week. So onto the music! This week is a pretty tough week to pick three records I really want to write about. I have about 6 or maybe 9, but that might also be because I “missed” the last two weeks worth of Blogs lol.

One band that may only be played on internet radio thanks to their name alone really surprised me after a bunch of listens. Oh yea by the way they are called Star Fucking Hipsters. The band is made up of some of the best grunge punk rockers out of NYC! I was very happy to hear that the band sounds nothing like a Leftover Crack because even though I loved Leftover Crack and all the 6 or 7 side projects build from it, I just got tired of the sound. This record is solid from start to finish and once again I am very happy about it sounding different. Fast, angry and political is what this record is and coming from Fat Wreck Chord how could it not sound amazing. I also really like the female vocals that come in and out of most of the fast ska type tracks. Go buy it on the plastic shiny thing or the weird thing they call an MP3. Have you ever seen inside of an MP3? Did you know it was all made up of numbers? See you learning something new everyday =)

Oh looky here. I have another Fat Wreck Chord release. Yes, it is the record we have been all waiting for. Just over 6 years and it’s finally hit the light of day. Dillinger Four’s new record titled Civil War. I actually did not get this record in the mail to be honest with you. Fat Mike actually handed me this record while I was driving him and a few other people back to their tour buss late Thursday night. I was totally expecting the record to come in the mail soon, but when he pulled it from his very funny yellow golfer shorts I almost melted. There is a funny story that goes along with the golfer shorts story, but I will have to save that for another day because well he made fun of my damn shorts and that’s just not cool haha. Anyway, once I popped in the record and got to listen to a bunch of the tunes with Fat Mike I was in heaven. I was lucky enough to get the single to play on the station a few weeks back, but after hearing the record in its entirety I was just blow away. While listening to the record I still can’t stop air drumming and pretending to sing the album from start to finish. Over and over it plays in my CD player (yes I do not believe in mp3 players unless they are named Zune) and when it will stop know one will know. What can I say other than I love it! Now go buy it…

The guitar tones from this last band on my praise list for this week are fucking amazing. It’s like Motorhead, but with a super hot chick in the band. My office music listening headphones kind of suck, but this record sounds like amazing. I can’t wait to put this in my CD player hooked up to my kick ass speakers just to hear how dirty and metally this band is. The band is called Chrome Division and the record is titled: Booze, Broads and Beelzebub. What a Beelzebub is will be forever a mystery to me but regardless of the album title being kind of strange the things this record makes me want to do is wild. I feel like chugging a ton of shitty beer and slam dancing without clothing on. That maybe is even stranger than a Beelzebub. Speaking of what a Beelzebub I decided to Google it just so I don’t sound super stupid once this Blog is posted and I found out that a Beelzebub is a strange bug with a hell of a stinger. Not something you would want to meet while slam dancing naked after one to many shitty beers eh. Crank this record up and fucking go nuts.

It is time for an amazing interview!!!! Rajon from the hit radio show, “Define the Meaning” did an amazing audio interview with the lead singer of The Gaslight Anthem If you missed us playing it live on the station now is your chance to download the entire 30 minute interview. Yes you can keep it!

The interview was so good that even our friends over at SideOneDummy Records had something to say about it:

The Gaslight Anthem has been gracing the pages of a multitude of different press outlets lately, but one of the best and most insightful interviews you can find was done with the Gaslight Anthems good friends at Punk Radio Cast. If you’re a fan of the band or of rock n’ roll in general you will love this radical interview!

Now as some of you may or may not know, Toronto is probably the only city in the world where you can NOT get any decent Mexican food. Each trip we take, Mexican is number one on the list and in cities where Mexican is abundant; we tend to over do it by consuming it several times a day. I have a few favorite Mexican places in Las Vegas, but after visiting Luxor’s latest dinning addition, Tacos and Tequila (T&T), I went no further.

T&T’s menu successfully combined traditional and modern Mexican food, along with the absolute best tequila collection I have ever come across. We started off with ordering Casarita’s which were to die for. T&T’s Casarita’s were mixed with a 100% agave, Grand Marnier and house made sweet and sour mix. Not only was it a great break from the pre-made slushy, 7-11 type mix you get all across the Vegas strip it became the signature drink of the trip! Since we stayed at the Luxor, we made a point to visit T&T for Casarita’s quite often throughout our trip!

Along with the drinks came chips and salsa! The chips had such a fresh taste to them, which now makes it hard for me to enjoy anything other than T&T’s! They came with two salsa’s a very flavorful green tomato based along with a red tomato based, Smokey flavored salsa. Both salsa’s had a very nice spice to them, but were not overwhelming. Perfect for both those who love spice, and those who can only handle a little.
For our main entree’s we went for the traditional TACOS!! We ordered two dishes, The Chiloro and Tinga Tacos, which we shared across the table.  The Tinga Tacos are perfect for spice lovers! The chicken is super tender and stuff nicely into a soft tortilla shell and topped with a spicy tomato sauce and crisp lettuce. UGH!! Why can’t I be in Vegas eating there right now!!!

The Chilorno Tacos, which were my absolute favorite TACO’s EVER, was filled with spicy pulled pork, crema fresca, pickled onion, and green salsa. Typically I order chicken taco’s because of my love for tender meat. The pulled pork in the Chilorno was so tender it would be chosen over any chicken any day. This is a dish you must order.

Both meals came with delectable rice and black beans, which like everything else were fresh and cooked with exceptionally amazing flavor. Both tacos also came wrapped in house made tortilla’s which is a must for me when visiting any Mexican restaurant.

Overall the restaurant is a 10 and must visit while in Vegas.

CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH – PARIS HOTEL
As soon as we arrived to the city of sin, the Paris Champagne Brunch was number one on our list. Choosing the Sunday brunch was quite an ordeal. We settled with Paris after reading nothing, but great reviews. As soon as we dropped our stuff off at our hotel, The Luxor, we made the 20 minute trek to Paris in the scorching heat.

By the time we got to Paris it was already 12:30 pm and we were absolutely STARVING!!! The line up into the buffet was ridiculously long. We jumped in line thinking it would only be a 20 minute wait, only to find out it was over an hour and a half. Luckily, the hotel had set up a booth across from the line where you can get $5 Bloody Mary’s or Screwdrivers. I opted in for the Bloody Mary (which had Horseradish in it, yuck) and Danny took the Screwdriver. It made the wait a lot less longer. Not only was the wait a killer, so was the cost – $85 for two adults and a kid!!

Jayde, who is only eight, went straight for the Crepe’s (see picture below). I headed for the lunch items since I had breakfast 6 hours earlier!! My favorites included the prime roast, spinach and cheese ravioli’s and the Ice Cream. They have soft serve to die for. I also had the shrimp and the crab, which I found to be pretty low quality. At the cost of eighty dollars I was more concerned on assuring we got lots of champagne, which did flow nicely.

Overall, I would rate this buffet a 7 out of 10 taking into consideration the long line up, quality and variety of food.

M&M SHOP / SOME CANTINA!!!
My plan was to head over to Bellagio after Paris, but we all felt waaay to full and hot to start wandering the strip so we made our way back to the Luxor for some pool fun!! On our way back we stopped into the M&M shop, as well as some Mexican place for drinks. Here are some pictures from this adventure:

Following our visit to the M&M’s shop, we went back to the hotel to relax before heading to Cirque Du Soleil’s, LOVE!! Since its super cold up here in Canada, I made a point to spend the evening at the pool catching some sun. The Luxor pool was very decent and the attendant assisted me to the VIP area for no apparent reason. It was the ultimate way to relax.

Alright so I am back from yet another ridiculous (in a great way) trip!!! I have been home for less than 24 hours and so far everything is off the wall. I will however start posting all the updates from the trip, along with some really funny pictures. After my postings, we need to talk about US (the station and the listeners) trip to Vegas. Yes, you heard me correctly US, in Vegas :)
