So last week both Danny and I ended up being away from the office for the WHOLE week. Why you ask? Because car sales reps are the worse people in the WORLD!!! Both Danny and I are “sales people” per say. By the end of the week we both had a really good understanding as to why peoples instant reaction to say no to use before even knowing why we are calling, is the most common one. Let me start from the beginning….
PunkRadioCast has been searching for a new car for over 2 months now. Last Monday (June 23rd) Danny decided enough was enough and he was getting a car NOW! Originally we were going to get the Mini Cooper S. It was a bit out of our price range, but we knew we wanted a fairly small, sporty type car. We headed over to the local auto mall and began hunting for the cheapest, small auto. After 5 hours of searching we ended up at Toyota. We checked out the Yaris and to be honest with you it was a quite shitty car.
Despite the car being not the greatest the price was right and it would get the job done. The sales rep promised us the car would be ready in a few days or less with a payment way below our budget and we were on a 36 month lease. This was perfect. It was a compact car that was obviously not the dream vehicle, but it allowed enough in the budget to potentially get the Mini Cooper S in a year or so as a second car.
On Tuesday we never heard back from the sales rep. Danny called and called and was not able to get a hold of him. On Wednesday morning, the same thing. Danny and I decided to head back to the auto mall to talk to the rep face to face. He assured us that they were looking for our car and was not able to find it yesterday becuase the “lady who looks for the cars was sick”. He than asked us to hold on a second and disappeared. While he was gone we ran into the business manager who is a friend of Danny’s family. He than in conversation mentioned that they have been looking for our car all day Tuesday. Danny and I look at eachother wondering why there is this contradiction. Our sales rep than returns and asks that we give him to lunch to find a car. We accept and leave to discuss.
Lunch rolls around and there is no phone call. We called our sales rep continusly from lunch well into the early evening. When we finally get a hold of him he tell us Toyota is having a car shortage and that we can get a red or orange Yaris or wait a MONTH for the car we want!!! We than tell him we will be at his office in a few minutes to discuss. The best part is if we wanted the orange or red we would have to wait a week!!!!
Danny and I get to the office and clearly tell him he promised a car and that if he doesn’t produce what he promises we will pull out of the deal. The sales man than tells Danny we never said we were in a rush AND that we are obligated by law to buy the car because we signed a promise to buy a car with a deposit. The form we signed CLEARLY states that we are not obligated to the car, but if we do not buy the car we may loose our deposit. When Danny shows this to him he denies that its true (retarded I know) and says give me until tomorrow morning (Thursday June 26) and let me see if I can get you a better car by the end of the weekend.
Danny decides this is bullshit and that he wants to look at a back up plan. So, once again we are out looking for a new car. We headed over to Honda and decided to look at the Civic. Danny was hesitant to buy the Civic from the beginning since the only car he has EVER owned. We get into Honda and he tells the sales person that we were originally looking to get the Cooper and he suggests the Honda Fit. Danny is still hesitant, but takes up the sales reps offer to let him drive Danny around in the Fit. I stay at dealership and Danny returns saying, “This is the car I want over the Mini”
Danny decides to wait until Thursday to buy the car just to see what happens with the shady Toyota dealer. Of course the next day, the sales rep never calls so we head out and buy the Honda. After 5 hours of negotiating, we own a new Honda Fit!
Now Toyota, we are going to keep the ending of this short becuase it has yet to end. All I know is we are getting our deposit back tomorrow, but I highly doubt it is going to be an easy adventure. And now to a picture of the new car:
